Steam main steam trap installation tips

The inlet pipe of the trap is actually an extension of the steam main. In order to reduce the heat radiation, the best way is to install the trap near the main.

However, steam main is usually located at a higher position, and if the trap is installed close to the main, maintenance and testing will be difficult. It is easy for us to ignore and forget these remote traps. Once these traps run into problems, we may allow them to be in a state of failure for several years.

These conditions may be ameliorated if there is a ladder or other facility near where the trap is installed to go up high. However, if these facilities are not available, we recommend installing the trap in an accessible location. In addition, if the trap is installed horizontally, it is recommended that the pipe connecting the trap to the catchment be as short as possible to reduce heat radiation losses.
