In process pipeline systems, most valves are designed to limit flow to a certain range by making the flow passage or area of the closed element smaller than the inner diameter of the pipeline. Certain ball valves can be designed to have sufficient internal flow channels to allow flow through without obvious restrictions. This kind of ball valves is called full-diameter ball valves because the internal flow channels are equal to the full area of the entrance. Full-diameter ball valves are mainly used for switching and circuit breaking conditions.
